The historical situation in which Conrad of Megenberg wrote his book was the prosecution of the Jews, as his book was even on the Morality of Germany. Individuals were victimizing as well as lynching the Jews, thinking they were the cause of the pandemic outbreak.
An argument that Conrad of Megenberg made was the idea that if the Jews had started the plague, then it raises the suspicion as to why they too, would be dying, as most died in "droves from the exact disease as the Christians". The way he is stating his argument, it can be inferred that people are trying to justify and blame the plague on the Jews, rather than take responsibility for the unknown. For example, he countered that if the Jews had still poisoned the wells, even after they had been purified, how was it that people still died in great numbers.
One way disease influenced the development of urban areas in the period 1350-1450 was counter-urbanization. The diseases hit the culture of towns and cities disproportionately hard, although rural areas were also significantly affected, it was the larger cities who were the worst off. As population densities and close living quarters made disease transmission easier, many started to spread out into more rural areas in hopes to avoid the epidemic.
