Bacteria are unicellular prokaryotes. Different species of bacteria grow on agar media so that scientists can study and perform experiments with these organisms and figure out the way these cells work. Two major factors effect bacteria growth on agar media, temperature and amount of nutrients provided or sugar. Some species of bacteria grow better at specific temperatures and all life needs glucose (monosaccharide sugar) in order to carry out glycolysis.
