Respiration is energy releasing process. In respiration, oxygen is inhaled from the air which combines with the glucose present in the cell forming carbondioxode, water and energy in the form of ATP. Carbondioxode is exhaled outside the body and ATP is used in various functions of the body. It occurs in both animals and plants.

Photosynthesis is energy producing process. In photosynthesis, carbondioxode react with water in the presence of sunlight produces glucose and oxygen. Glucose is stored in body parts and oxygen is released outside the body. It only occurs in plants.
