Which answer best explains microgravity. Gravity in space, or microgravity, is a tiny fraction of what it is on Earth. Astronauts are able to float because they are out far enough from the Earth to escape gravity. Because gravity diminishes by the inverse square of the distance if you get away from the earth microgravity takes over. Things orbiting Earth appear weightless but are actually falling around the Earth.
