Genetic engineering/modification is the manipulation of an organism's genome in order to be able to improve it. This is the case of the human insulin, which is an hormone that helps in regulating blood sugar. Genetic engineering made the process of producing insulin very fast by using a bacteria's genome called Recombinant DNA to convey the insulin producing gene, which is then administered to the insulin-deficient humans. This genetic engineering procedure produces insulin in large quantities as compared to the conventional method. The quality is also high and easy to use. One of the disadvantages of using this technique is that the cost of production is very high.
