Pakistan International Airlines is the national flag-carrier of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. PIA was founded on October 23, 1946 as Orient Airways based in Calcutta (now Kolkata) in British India. In 1955, Orient Airways was nationalized and merged with other airlines to form ‘Pakistan International Airlines.’ In the decades from the 1950s to the 1970s, PIA was ranked amongst the best airlines in the world. This was acclaimed to be the golden era for Pakistan International Airlines when it provided administrative and technical support to many other airlines, including Emirates. Some of the aviation records set by PIA pilots in yesteryear still stand to this day. Today, PIA is wracked by many administrative and human resource related problems notably corruption, inefficiency, favoritism, nepotism and overstaffing. As we can see in the text above, the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was once a very successful and reputable airline, especially from the 1950s until the 1970s. Not only was it famous in Pakistan, but it was actually a well-known airline all over the world, especially in the Emirates as well.

However, as time went by and the airline got richer and richer, it came with its own problems. For example, many employees, especially those at the top, became corrupted and just wanted to earn lots of money at the expense of others. Many employees started hiring members of their family and friends, which resulted in nepotism and many people started working who were actually not fit for the position as they lacked skills. This also resulted in overstaffing as many people were hired for the positions that didn't even exist so there were too many people. So what was once a glorious airline, lost its glorious status it once had and would like to turn things around.

This can be done by hiring experts in their fields, getting rid of inexperienced people who were hired only through nepotism, arresting those corrupted employees who led to the downfall of the airlines, and marketing the airline more properly to re-earn the trust of the customers.
