Here we have to get the reaction between the given sample in each step and justification needed for each of the reaction.
1. The color of silver nitrate (AgNO₃) and sodium chloride (NaCl) solutions are colorless. The color of potassium chromate (K₂CrO₄) solution is yellow-orange. And all of the solutions are clear.
2. On addition of AgNO₃ to NaCl the following reaction happens:
AgNO₃ (s) + NaCl (s) = AgCl↓ + NaNO₃ (s).
In this reaction we get a white precipitation of silver chloride (AgCl). As the state of the solution changes i.e. colorless to white precipitate there must be a reaction happened.
3. On addition of AgNO₃ to K₂CrO₄ the following reaction happens:
2AgNO₃ (s) + K₂CrO₄ (s) = Ag₂CrO₄↓ + 2KNO₃ (s). In this reaction a brown red precipitation occurs.
As in this reaction the state of the chemicals changes from liquid to solid with a distinguish change of color there must be a chemical reaction happens.
4. If NaCl solution added to the mixture of AgNO₃ and K₂CrO₄ solution i.e. Ag₂CrO₄ then the red brown precipitate of Ag₂CrO₄ will change to white AgCl precipitate.
The reaction is Ag₂CrO₄ + 2NaCl = 2AgCl↓ + Na₂CrO₄. As in this reaction the color of the precipitate changes thus there must be a chemical reaction happens.
