Leaves have specialized cells called guard cells. Guard cells will contract and relax which allows them to open and close pores in the leaf called stomata. When stomata are open, water is pulled up to the leaves and some water may escape. When stomata are closed, water remains still within the plant. Based on the description of guard cells and stomata, what internal and external conditions would most likely cause the stomata to be open? What caused the behavior of the plant in the diagram above?
