Resonance stabilization of the benzylic radicals, much like the stabilization of benzylic carbocations, leads to increased reactivity of alkylbenzenes in radical halogenation reactions compared to alkanes. both bromine and chlorine readily react with alkylbenzenes in radical halogenation reactions, but the product(s) of these reactions can vary in number and site of substitution because of differences in reactivities between chlorine and bromine. draw the final dihalogenated product(s) formed in significant quantities by the consecutive bromination and chlorination of the alkylbenzene given below. do not include stereochemistry.
