The process by which dissolved gases are exchanged between the blood and interstitial fluids is called internal respiration.
Explanation:
Physiologically respiration is defined as the passing of oxygen the external environment into the cells within tissues, and the transport of carbon dioxide in the opposite direction.
Respiration is divided into three:
1.) The external respiration: this involves the inhalation of air and exhalation of used gases.
2.) The internal respiration: this is defined as a process of diffusing oxygen from the blood, into the interstitial fluid and into the cells
3.) Cellular respiration: this involves the conversion of food to energy. Its further divided into aerobic respiration, which is a cellular respiration that requires oxygen and anaerobic respiration which does not.
