Its purpose is to inform the reader of the idea that will be defended by the paper's author, that is the author's stand concerning that subject. It should not state points that will be discussed in body paragraphs, it should not topicalize the paper. Its goal is to tell the reader what to expect from the discussion, pointing to a conclusion.

One problem that I've noticed occurs frequently at (name of your school) is students arriving late.  When students arrive late to school, it interrupts limited class time, which then is negative, even for the students who showed up to class on time.  A potential solution for this problem could be an award system.  Perhaps after a semester without being tardy, a student could earn a free period.
