Based on what you know about the importance of reputation in the crucible explain what it meant to the three following characters : john proctor, reverend hale, judge danforth

John Proctor knows the importance of reputation. He is a local farmer who is shamed by an affair with Abigail, even though he is always into trouble with the authorities because of his temper and independence. He is accused of witchcraft, he has the opportunity to falsely confess to save his life, but this would depend on his to sign a document. So because of his reputation, he decides to die.

Reverend John Hale also cares a lot for reputation. He is considered a specialist on this field, he is considered to be the best and because of that, he is fervorous after suspected witches. But after he knows about corruption cases and abuses of the trials, sobriety comes and he tries to save as many suspects as possible.

Judge Danforth is probably the character we can see more clearly the importance of reputation. He asks characters if they know who he is, he wants everybody to know his name and his importance in Salem. He relays on his name and his reputation so he doesn’t need to do anything.
