These two literature pieces illustrate the viciousness of revenge through their settings and use of imagery. "Paul's Case" shows the title character's vengeance from his teachers by his trip to Carnegie Hall and New York City. Paul displays that he can adapt to the rich environments despite his teachers' criticisms. The author also used carnation as a symbol of rebellion because his teachers believed Paul wore it in defiance."The Cask of Amontillado" shows revenge in Montresor's vaults. Montresor took Fortunato there to make his death pay for his sins. The author used the Amontillado sherry as a symbol of vegeance's tempting characteristics. It was the key factor that helped Montresor succeed. Both plots progressed deductively because they show the main character's mindset first before the main event of revenge.
