The narrator's point of view in paragraph 2 reveals that she is embarassed by her Chinese traditions and her noisy relatives.
The author developed this point of view by developing a plot in which Amy's family invite the minister's family over dinner on Christmas Eve.
Explanation:
"Fish Cheeks" is a short story written by Amy Tan. The story is about a girl named Amy, who has fall in love with an American boy, the ministers son. Amy is Chinese, but despise her origin, her looks, and her Chinese traditions. She thinks that her family do not have American manners and are very noisy while eating.
This point of view of the narrator, in paragraph 2, reveals that she is embarassed about her origin, her Chinese traditions, and Christmas Chinese traditional food as well. She thinks that the ministers family, and especially Robert would be embarassed by her family's behaviour, that happens at last.
The author has managed to develop this point of view of the narrator by creating a plot in which, Amy's wish of having Robert for Christmas is fulfilled in Paragraph 2. In paragraph 1, we can see that Amy asks for two wishes, one for having Robert for Christmas and a new slim American nose. One of her wish is fulfilled in paragraph 2, by the author, when Amy's family invites the minister's family over dinner on Christmas Eve. Though her wish is fulfilled, yet she is not happy as she is embarassed of her Chinese origin and traditions.
