an allegory is a story that is meant o have some form of hidden meaning, or message. usually this is some form of criticism of the government under which the author lives, or maybe it can be a critique on society as a whole. don quixote is a story about a man who takes the name of a night. he doesn't understand many of the rules or practices that come with the knighthood, nor does much of how his society functions make a whole lot of sense to him. this could function as an allegory, because the author cervantes wasn't to fond of the knighthood, and found that it was just another tradition that had lost most of it's initial meaning, and that it was now just a sort of semblance of what it should be. don quixote is a satire, and can most certainly be an allegory of spain and it's traditional practices at the time.
