In Parable of the by Sower by Octavia E. Butler, Butler references "Christ's parable" on page 141, and her title is also taken from one of Christ's parables. Butler's book can, possibly, be viewed as a parable or a story with a moral. The parable could represent the seeds Lauren carries for her intended new land, or it could represent the seed of her new belief system, Earthseed, as she "drops" it on her new community members in hopes they will follow. Do you think Butler's story is also intended to be read as a parable? If so, what specific passages clued you in, or did you read the story as destruction and survival in its various forms? Or, did you read Butler's story as both?
