4. His desire to become educated
Explanation:
Uncle Tom's Cabinet is a novel about slavery in the United States by American writer Harriet Beecher Stowe. Published in 1852, the book "helped lay the foundation for Civil War," according to Will Kaufman. Stowe, a Connecticut-born Hartford Female Seminary professor and active advocate of abolitionism in the United States, has created the figure of Uncle Tom, a black slave with a long history of suffering, whose life is at the heart of history from the book. The novel describes the reality of slavery while affirming that Christian love can overcome something as destructive as the slavery of human beings.
Uncle Tom, the central figure in history, was initially identified as a slave of noble, suffering, and Christian personality who had the desire to become educated. More recently, however, his name has become a synonym for African Americans accused of "selling" to whites. Stowe wanted Tom to be a "noble hero" and a commendable person. Throughout the book, far from allowing himself to be exploited, Tom openly defends his ideal beliefs by being even admired, unwillingly, by his enemies.
