Irony is a literary element which describes a situation that has a different or even an opposite result to the one expected.

According to the lines from "The Third Bank of the River" The narrator expresses his wish for his father to stop rowing the boat and claims he will take his place in it. Because so many years had passed the narrator did not expect his father to accept his proposal. So, instead of doing what he said he would do, the narrator fled. Turning the situation into an irony.

B you would be able to eliminate a and c because it isn't true that it does have any effect on the meaning of the poem and you could tell that personification is used and that it isn't nonsense it's just figurative language
