answer:
this isn't english, i'll answer an english question instead
explanation:
dear zeus,
i kindly ask you to inform the other gods that i am just a humble warrior that fought in troy to honor his country, the great greece, and now wants safe passage back to ithaca to see his beautiful penelope. if i can't relieve this ill will on behalf of poseidon, it will be the end of me, so this really is a life or death situation. my life is in your hands. i hereby beg you to intervene on my behalf and tell the other gods that while i am a mortal, i am nevertheless a deserving hero who just wants passage home to ithaca.
there are many reasons that i believe that i am a deserving hero. i have been brave. i have taken on all of the monsters without fear. while this might not seem to make me worthy, it does mean that i am not just a beggar; that there is a foundation beneath my claims. not every brave person has an entire book written about him, so this shows that i am a credible hero. however, i am also humble. i am not greedy; i don't (normally) take things too far. this is vitally important, because right now, i don't ask to be honored. i don't need to be the most important person in the world, i just ask to go home safely and see my wife and son that i sacrificed everything, including possibly my life, for.
now i am completely understanding if you cannot concede with my request. there are things i have done that i would not have done if i hadn't had to. the blinding of poseidon's son was egregious and i agree that i have rightly earned the wrath of the great sea god. however, polyphemus was about to eat me, so i had no choice but to do this horrible injustice. forgive me, dear zeus, for what troubles you troubles us both. i also agree that it was rude of my conscience not to hazard a gift as an apology to you, but, i didn't think of this at the time.
i'll relate all i have been through. hopefully, you will see that i really am a good mortal, i just got sidetracked on the slippery ice that constitutes temptation. i gave up everything to show my respect for not only the great gods, the greatest of which is you, great zeus, but also to honor our great country that we both love. troy had violated us for stealing helen of troy away. we had to save her. i personally gave up everything. months became years, years became a decade. finally the war ended. i was ready to go home. however, there was trouble along the way. i probably didn't handle it as well as i could have, but i was just dying to see my penelope again. my desire also got in the way of my better thinking sometimes. however, i am still a hero.
as you can see, i just want to get home. however, this rather simple thing is in your hands. see that i am a good mortal. only you can save, so , me (homer books 6-12).
sincerely, odysseus
