Step-by-step explanation; personification is a literary technique in which an object is given human characteristics. And, in your example, an object, or thing, (the rain in the air) is given a human characteristic (the act of breathing).

At first, when he met the wack speaking Eliza Doolittle he thought very little of women and thought of himself as superior. Later, he begins to develop feelings for Eliza but denies them and only thinks of her as an experiment. In the very end, he starts to respect her, but doesn't know how to show it. He ends up hurting her feelings and then she runs off with a quite daft man which he thought was funny yet stung with jealously. Over the course, the attitude is more accepted and starts to respect women more.
