Answer with Explanation:
1. What is the point of the story?
The story about "Mother Kite" clearly teaches people not to judge others on the outside without knowing them first. Mother Kite is an eagle who told her daughter to bring her some food to eat. Her daughter brought her a duckling, she asked about the reaction of the duckling's mother. Her daughter said that the duckling's mother said nothing. So, she told her daughter to find another food. Then, her daughter gave her a chick. She asked her daughter again about the reaction of the chick's mother. Her daughter said, she cried. Upon hearing this, Mother Kite decided that they can eat the chick. Mother Kite's decision may sound a little bit foolish.
Somebody may really look innocent and good on the outside, but no one knows his/her real intentions. He may have bad intentions inside. On the contrary, somebody may look bad on the outside but deep down inside he's a kind man.
2. How does it relate to the encounter between the Abame and the whites?
This story is deeply related to the story of Abame and the whites. An innocent white man rode on a bicycle going to a village. The people were surprised to find him. The elders were suspicious and so, they asked the Oracle about him. The oracle told them that a white man will come to their village to destroy them all and that there were others to follow. Upon hearing this, they killed the white man and even tied his iron bike to the tree. A few weeks later, another group of white men came. They saw Abame's bike tied on the tree. They left and went back in a big group and they killed all of the people in the village.
Just as what happened to the people in Abame, they were killed because of doing a wrong move. They judged the white man according to how he looked like and what the Oracle said, without even knowing who he was. They misjudged him. So, this caused a bigger conflict when the white man's people knew what happened to him. Their action could be considered as foolish.
