The experiment occur in the class during the normal hours of school. The concept behind the experiment is “Strength Through Discipline.” and it involves various things from a posture lesson to insist that they stand up and address him as “Mr. Ross” when they are answering questions.

The motive behind the experiment was to show how was life under the Nazi regime. Mr. Ross wants his students to understand the negative effects of dictatorship, so he previously show them a documentary about the Nazi regime, but the students do not understand how people would let that atrocities happen without rebelling.

The effects on the class are various through time.  As the novel progress, the class become more united, outside people become involved, and various acts of punishment towards who dare to criticise the wave began to appear, while the teacher becomes more and more involved in the project.

Mr. Ross become aware of the situation, and he realize that he must bring the experiment to an end after the publication of the editorial by Laurie. He was confronted about the experiment by his principal and his wife, and he reassured them that the experiment has an end date, and that the experiment will teach the student a lesson.

From the video it is possible to understand the reasons behind the rise of Hitler and Nazi. The nationalism and the sense of pride that the Germans felt for having a great role in history again and the sense of relief they must have felt when they knew they could make others pay for what people thought was their fault.

The Holocaust is an event that has multiple causes and it is a complex phenomenon: however this experiment proves that everyone could become a Nazi if we don’t pay attention to our sense of criticism and our ability to think for yourself, therefore in the various cause of the Holocast there is also the loss of criticism and the will of following a charismatic leader.

Authority and power are related, this is a message that arrives clear from the film. Moreover, the film sees power and authority as tools that should be used carefully, as the negative side of those elements could have serious consequences that are upon us all as a society.

Authority is not necessary evil. In the film, the authority remains even after the experiment is concluded moreover the authority of the Dean plays a fundamental role in making Mr. Ross realizing he is doing something that could have serious consequence.

Because it is not authority per se that is bad, is the use of authority which could be either good or bad. Authority is just a way in which is possible to make order out of a situation when order is necessary, but the use we do of authority could be bad when that authority is exercised in a bad way.

If authority was bad in itself, society would never be born at all. A little of authority is necessary in order to achieve great result. Authority and power should not be fear but respected and evaluated carefully, as they are powerful tools that should be used carefully in order to achieve the maximum potential of a community or a group.

Yes, there are situation in which authority is necessary. In a society it is impossible that everyone can do whatever they want, so authority is necessary in order to bring order to society. Moreover, there are situation of potential danger or risks, when listen to someone that has more experience and have an authority could literally save our own life, such as in the military.
