By 1914 only Ethiopia and Liberia were independent countries. Great Britain colonized Egypt, Sudan, Nigeria, Rhodesia, South Africa, British East Africa, Bechuanland, Sierra Leone, Gold Coast. France also had a large colonial empire, mostly in the north west of Africa. France and Britain held the most territory in Africa by 1914. The percentage of that territory was: 36% French and 32% Brituish. D ) France.
