How did the compromise of 1850 appease() both the north and the south?

Well initially the Compromise of 1850 appeased both North and South enough to keep them from physically fighting each other, but of course this did not last for long, since no compromise was ultimately able to avert the Civil War. 

Having a modern military and being an industrialized power. To summarize it was like they wanted to copy the U.S. in terms of economic success and military power.
