The Union loss made the North realize it would not be an easy victory. During this war the Union's forces were very slow in organizing and positioning themselves at war. This slow paced movement allowed for Confederate reinforcements to arrive quickly by rail. The battles was a big loss because on the line were poorly trained and poorly led troops that have resulted to a retreat from the first ever Civil War made in USA.
