ADVANTAGES: Leapfrogging would allow the United States forces to reach Japan quickly and not expend the time, manpower, and supplies to capture every Japanese-held island on the way. It would give the Allies the advantage of surprise and keep the Japanese off balance.
DISADVANTAGES: Island hopping isolated enemy troops, who could stil damage the supply routes and wreak the havoc whenever allied troops landed. As land in between the major islands (that the US have taken) is still teeming with enemies, it would mean that ships and airplanes would not be able to be as safe, or make a landfall to get more freshwater or other supplies on board.
Good luck :) <3
