The structure, functioning and activities of the National Unity Committee

This was formed by a group of military officers led by General Camel.Collectively, this committee staged the military coup of 27th.,May 1960. The coup was as a result of massive political corruption and economic crisis in Turkish society.

Composition includes a few  Generals, but large number of lower rank officers which include the captains,majors and  Colonels. The NUC drew  a new constitution for it to rule constitutionally before it hold an election, The latter was held on October 15, 1961.

Thus Turkey was  returned to a civilian regime, thus establishing  social and economic reforms, for  a stable political reforms.
