In 1607, England finally got the opportunity when Jamestown, Virginia, became the first permanent English settlement in North America. Lured to the New World with promises of wealth, most colonists were unprepared for the constant challenges they faced: drought, starvation, the threat of attack, and disease.

The Paris Peace Conference was the meeting in 1919 of the Allies after the armistice to agree the conditions of peace with the countries of the Central Powers: Germany, the Ottoman Empire, Bulgaria, Austria and Hungary, the latter two as representatives of the disappeared Austro-Hungarian Empire. The allies began their negotiation work with each other on January 18, 1919 under the direction of the Committee of Four: Wilson, Clemenceau, Lloyd George and Orlando, although those who really led the negotiations were the first three. The conquered countries was not allowed to attend these meetings, so they decided the future of the vanquished were the victors, who had different positions.

Kingdom of Italy
• Application of the Treaty of London: annexation of Trentino, Alto Adige, Trieste, Istria and Dalmatia.
• Colonial profits in the Middle East and Africa and war indemnities.
