National Workshops were created by the provisional government of the French Second Republic after the Revolution of 1848, under the influence of Louis Blanc.
The industrial distress and overall agricultural and commercial crisis had risen unemployment.
Blanc believed that in order to create a greater society, work should be guaranteed for everyone through “social workshops” funded by the state that could progressively control production and achieve a socialist society.
