Quipu, Quechua khipu (“knot”), quipu also spelled quipo, an Inca accounting apparatus in use from c. 1400 to 1532 ce and consisting of a long textile cord (called a top, or primary, cord) with a varying number of pendant cords. The pendant cords may also have cords (known as subsidiaries) attached.

A quipu usually consisted of cotton or camelid fiber strings. The Inca people used them for collecting data and keeping records, monitoring tax obligations, properly collecting census records, calendrical information, and for military organization.

Magna Carta which means the Great Charter of the Liberties became the foundation of the British government and the similar constitutional ones around the world as it first introduced and made possible the idea of the limited government. It effectively muzzled royal authority with the constitution and the subsequent laws.
