The correct answer is B) Nixon could not withhold the Watergate tapes under "executive privilege."
The United States vs. Nixon was a Supreme Court case that deal with the Watergate break-in that Nixon was associated with. In order to determine Nixon's involvement in this break-in to Democratic headquarters, the court asked for tapes that consisted of recorded conversations that Nixon had in the Oval Office. Nixon claimed that the tapes did not need to be turned over because of "executive privilege." This idea essentially states that the President has the ability to withhold information if he/she deems necessary.
The court, however, ruled that Nixon did not have this power because they felt that the president should be treated just like every other American citizen in court.
