Washington marched his troops to Valley Forge in terrible conditions because The British had taken Philadelphia and Washington wanted to keep an eye on them.

Washington needed supplies which were thought plentiful at Valley Forge.

The British attacked the army and took all of their supplies so they had to flee.

Washington wanted to toughen up the army and see who could withstand the hardship
