was a Democratic candidate for president
Explanation:
In those June days, Robert Kennedy was in full swing on the White House in 1968. He left the state administration a little earlier and retained only the post of senator. In March of that year, he announced his presidential nomination. He also had serious competitors in the Democratic Party, but behind him was the still powerful and famous Kennedy family, progressive America and its irresistible charm.
Of crucial importance to his candidacy were the early elections in the largest US state of California. It was up to him to decide whether he would be a Democratic candidate in the November elections that year. Kennedy won the June 5 election. Sometime before midnight, when the first results were announced, he came out to his supporters in one of the grand halls of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles to announce his victory.
