Kennan was afraid that the Soviet Union would spread their influence all over the world. He based most of his thoughts and ideas off of Truman's administration's foreign policy. He pointed out that Turkey and Iran might be the next spots that Soviet Union might take over and then those countries would spread the influence everywhere.
One country that adopted the idea of Communism in the west was Cuba. If you have heard of the Cuban Missile Crisis, that was a really dangerous event that happened in world history. Nuclear bombs and missiles were set up in various bases around Cuba. Note that the distance between Cuba and Florida, USA is around 535 miles, which is around 3 hours if you were to drive by car. Everybody was glued to their TV sets and watched carefully of what will happen. Seconds before the missiles were supposed to be launched towards US, it was called off by an agreement between President John F. Kennedy and Soviet Union leader Nikita Khrushchev.
