Explanation:
Fort Sill is a garrison and school for U.S. field artillery near Lawton, Oklahoma. Fort Sill is also the only one of the forts built during the Native American wars that is still used for military purposes. There are also three museums at the Fort.
The garrison was established in 1869 in the then Indian Territory and for several decades the fort served as a school, police station, mission station and prison for the reserve Indians. Many of the famous Indian warriors ended their days in Fort Sill, including Geronimo. Photographer William S. Soule worked for a time at Fort Sill to take pictures of the famous prisoners.
