During the time of independence war the slavery, few free black men were serving in the continental army. The British General Dunmore offered that blacks who is ready to abandon their owner and join with the British army will be provided with freedom. Soon after this announcement nearly 300 slaves joining the British forces. George Washington was feared that if the blacks were provided with equipment, they can expect freedom in exchange and they might start a rebellion on their own for freedom. So they hindered them into the ranks in the army. But the Dunmore's offer made British forces stronger.
