A difference between Ellis Island and Angel Island was that many immigrants who passed through Angel Island were detained for long periods.

Ellis Island is the first immigration station. It is located in New York harbor. While Angel Island was the second immigration station, located in San Fransisco Bay. Angel Island opened in 1910 to monitor a large number of Chinese immigrants coming to America.

Immigrants who arrived in America through Angel Island were treated differently with those arrived in Ellis Island. Asian immigrant from Japan, China and India traveled through Angel Island.
