The decision to drop the atomic bomb had little support among military leaders. Some military leaders felt that dropping the atomic bomb was not ethical.
Many of these officers were trained in the traditional way of warfare where they would send troops and take over the territory. Truman wanted to end the war to avoid more American casualties which led him to authorize its use.
