The main reason was to silent Republican criticism of the government. These acts were signed and passed by Federalist in order to weaken the possibilities for immigrants to become a citizen which also silenced the power of Naturalization Act.  Alien and Sedition Acts is also allowed the president to imprison and deport non-citizens or immigrants that could seem dangerous.
