For a long period of time Russia was practically the last authoritarian regime in Europe. Until 1905 the country didn't had constitution and Parliament had no authority. Monarchs from the Romanov dynasty were bringing all important decisions. After the Russo-Japanese war, in which they were defeated Emperor introduced certain changes, but most of people were still unsatisfied with the conditions. When the war broke out, most of the people didn't wanted even to participate in it. Supporters of revolutionary changes were just waiting for a right moment to start the revolution.
Explanation:
Russia was industrially undeveloped country, whose focus was solemnly on agriculture. As a feudal state, Russia was depriving a lot of people, especially peasants of their rights. Even when feudalism was abolished, economical situation was awful. People craved for changes.
