The Vietnam War was a disastrous conflict for US administration, as it was costly, violent, and highly unpopular.
The information cleared by the media was contradictory to what the Government divulged. As the conflict stretched, without a sense of victory, the American population turned against the war. In this context, the dissemination of data on the war melted what remained of the approval of the intervention by the population, which made the government try to prevent the media from divulging.
While the United States government was still involved in the war, the young Americans were protesting against the country's continued presence in the conflict. Early in 1979, pacifist groups and the civilian population generally campaigned in the streets asking the government to withdraw troops and return with their troops to the country. Since it was not achieving any success in the war, having several consecutive defeats, and also not having the support of the population, in 1975 the US government accepted the Paris Agreement, withdrawing all its troops from Vietnam.
