Lady Macbeth.
Explanation:
Though Macbeth with his own will killed King Duncan but it was Lady Macbeth who instigated him to assassinate the king.
In Act 4, we find that the three witches prophesy to Macbeth and Banquo. After being promoted to the Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth writes a letter to his wife, Lady Macbeth.
In the opening scene of 5, Act 1, we find Lady Macbeth reads the letter written by Macbeth. The letter mentions the prophesy spoken by the weird sisters and the fulfillment of one as a Thane of Cawdor. After reading the letter, Lady Macbeth is happy that Macbeth has now become the Thane of Cawdor also. But she worries if he has what it takes to seize the first opportunity to be a king because Macbeth is too kind to kill his adversary.
"Glamis thou art, and Cawdor; and shalt be
What thou art promised. Yet do I fear thy nature;
It is too full o' th' milk of human kindness" (Quoted text from, Macbeth, Act 1, Scene 5)
In the same scene, of Act 1, when the servant brings the news that the king Duncan is arriving with Macbeth, she delivers a speech in which she asks the spirit of murder to fall on her and thicken her blood so that she may not feel guilty. In this speech, we see that even before talking to Macbeth she had already made plans to murder the king Duncan and to instigate Macbeth to accompany in her plan.
" Come, you spirits
That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here,
And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full
Of direst cruelty. Make thick my blood.
Stop up the access and passage to remorse," (Quoted Text from, Macbeth, Act 1, Scene 5).
So, from the reasons provided above, we can say that the person to blame for the death of King Duncan is Lady Macbeth.
