Why do countries trade? Why might it be advantageous for a country to specialize in producing only certain goods/services?

Frederick Douglass's main cause was to abolish slavery and he spoke from bitter experience since he was once a slave. Basically he became a great orator who condemned slavery and also he wrote several autobiographies sharing his experiences as a slave and why he was so opposed to it.
