Step-by-step explanation:
first let’s solve the given equation
y+1 = 2(x-3)
y+1 = 2x -6
y = 2x -7
this equation has a slope of 2
since we want a line perpendicular to this one, the slope has to be opposite and reciprocal:
2 is the same thing as 2/1 so the reciprocal is 1/2 to make this opposite we just put a negative sign in front
so the slope of our new equation is -1/2
what we have so far is: y = -1/2x + b
we know this equation has to pass thru the point (5,0) so we’ll plug in 5 for x and 0 for y so we can find b
0 = -1/2(5) +b
0 = -5/2 + b
b = 5/2
when we plug b into our equation, our final answer is
y = -1/2x + 5/2
