12 minus 14 doesn’t equal -2 so how does this equation make sense.

-x - 14 = -2 what is x? this doesn’t make sense because -12 is the answer for x but when you plug it in to the equation for x it doesn’t work

Is the 2 suppose to be negative cause if the two wasn’t negative is would be the answer
