A family has two cars: a minivan and a compact car used for commuting. They get driven about the same number of miles. They've decide to replace one of the two, and their primary concern is reducing the amount of gas they use. The minivan gets about 12 miles to the gallon; it could be replaced with a station wagon that gets about 25 miles to the gallon. The compact car gets about 24 mpg, and could be replaced with a hybrid getting around 50 mpg.
