Below are some guidelines to help you with the 6.05 assignment 1. Draw a line that intersect the rainbow in two places. Tell me the coordinates of the two places where it crosses. These are the solutions to the system. I would pick the points (-6,0) and (0,36) since these are
easy points that are already marked on the graph. (it could be any 2 points but these are easy)
To make the equation of this line first find its slope. The slope will be m-(360)/(0-(-6))
This gives us 36 / 6 or a slope of m-6
We know the y-intercept is (0,36) since this is where the line will cross the y-axis.
So we use the formula yumub to write and equation. So we gety - 6x + 36.
2. Does this line have a positive slope (rises to the right) or negative slope (falls to the right).
3. The domain are the x-values of the rainbow (parabola). Tell me the left x endpoint and the right x endpoint
4. The range are the y-values. Tell me the lowest y and the highest y on the rainbow.
5. the x-intercept are the x-coordinates where the rainbow crosses the x-axis.
6. the y-intercept is where the rainbow crosses the y-axis. Tell me this point.
7. Create your own plece-wise graph
