"in saving the baby, the mother would surely die." you want the baby to be saved and so does the author. a third technique would be to make you believe and trust in something. "the priest would never do wrong by his word and therefore she followed him through the dark dungeon for their escape." without reading analyzing an author's credentials/argument, this is the best starter paragraph i can give for 5 points.
