Okay so the diagrams shows one value equal to another value. Essentially whatever is on the left side of the equal sign is equivalent to the right side of the equation
To work out x, we are going to try and move everything (but the x) from the left side of the equation to the right side. To do this, we must take the extra variables and move them to the right and changing the sign while doing so. If the variable on the left is positive then we must move it to the other side and minus it, if the variable on the left in a negative number then you move it to the other side and add it.
Diagram 1:
The equation states that;
x+1+1+1 = 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1 (ten ones)
x+3 = 10
Since the variable on the left side (3) is positive, we move it to the other side then minus it from 10.
x=10-3
Therefore x=7.
Diagram 2:
athe equation states that;
x+x+1+1+1+1+1 = 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1 (17 ones)
2x+5 = 17
Since the 5 is positive, we minus it from the other side
2x = 17-5
2x = 12
The other diagram ended at this point but since the variable on the left isn't 'x' then the solving isnt completed.
Since the variable was times (×) on the left side, it has to be divided on the right side. Same goes if if multiplication is one one side, divide on the other.
x=12/2
Therefore; x=6
