A Different Temperature Scale

There are other temperature scales besides Celsius and Fahrenheit. If you read Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth, you'll find the characters referring to the Réaumur temperature scale, which was once widely used in Europe.

In the Réaumur scale, water boils at 80°Ré and freezes at 0°Ré.
8. In the Fahrenheit scale, water boils at 212°F and freezes at 32°F. Find the difference between the boiling and freezing points of water in both °F and °Ré. (2 points: 1 point for each temperature difference)

9. The conversion rule for Fahrenheit to Réaumur is

Explain where the 32 and the

come from in this formula. Then describe the transformations from the graph of F(t) to the graph of R(t). (4 points: 2 points for the explanation (1 point for each number) and 2 points for the description (1 point for each transformation))

10. Use the conversion rule and your answer to question 5 to write the new equation, R(t). Then find the temperatures for t = 12 (noon) and t = 24 (midnight). (4 points: 2 points for the equation and 1 point for each row)
